Author Showcase Feature with Book Excellence Award Winner Maureen Francis Doyle
Book Title: A Journey in Time
How did you know you wanted to be an author? My father grew up in an orphanage in Detroit, Michigan. We knew nothing about his side of the family. After years of research, I discovered many courageous, fascinating people. I felt they deserved to be remembered and honored for the life they had lived. I made a decision to breathe life into my research in this historical fiction novel.
What is your advice for aspiring authors? If you had to do it again, what would you have done differently? Start with a plan. I purchased a book on how to write a book within 90 days and every day read a chapter and did an exercise. After a short while, the characters of my novel started talking to me and it took on a life of its own.
Do you have any writing rituals or practices? I let my ideas flow and I don’t worry about editing until the very end. Sometimes my fingers can’t keep up the words are coming so quickly.
What message do you want readers to remember? Life is all about having the courage to move forward with whatever you’re being nudged to do. Take that first step and don’t give up.
