Author Showcase Feature with Book Excellence Award Finalist Monica Sucha Vickers

Book Title: My Extraordinary Life

How did you know you wanted to be an author? I am a triple amputee. My grandmother told me at a very young age that I should write a book about my life. I asked her, “about what?” and she simply said, “someday you will know. People should know.” Before she died, she mentioned the book again, and, although still unsure about what, I promised her that I would write it. As I wrote, I finally understood.

What is your advice for aspiring authors? If you had to do it again, what would you have done differently? Write a little every day, just thoughts. In the end, it will be an organized book!

Do you have any writing rituals or practices? No – just doing a little every day. Set aside time every day even if it is only 10 minutes.

What message do you want readers to remember? The worst thing about a disability is that people see it before they see you.
