Author Showcase Feature with Book Excellence Award Finalist Klothild de Baar

How did you know you wanted to be an author? I am an economist by trade, but I always read and wrote. Letters, diaries, stories, theses, poems, books…and suddenly, I got published…and then I was called a writer…and then an ”author.” It just happened.

What is your advice for aspiring authors? If you had to do it again, what would you have done differently? Love words in all their forms, and images they conjure up, their sounds, and ideas they evoke. People everywhere love stories. If you can tell one, tell it. Just as you are and what you think and feel. Finally, get a good agent!

Do you have any writing rituals or practices? No. I just write. At home, at the cottage, on a bus, on a plane, while waiting somewhere, whenever I have a few minutes not yet filled. No ritual. Once your story is written spontaneously, chuckling, laughing, and sometimes with a silent tear, you can review it and compare it to the classic rules and disciplines of the ”learned” critics—just for good measure.

What message do you want readers to remember? Never let a critic get you down. Ignore the bad ones and only listen to the good ones. You know, the ones YOU understand.

How can fans get in contact with you?
