Author Bio: H. Kent Baker is a University Professor of Finance in the Kogod School of Business at American University. He served as the Chair of the Department of Finance and Real Estate for 11 years and headed the Finance Center of Excellence for 8 years.

He has authored or edited 29 books for such publishers as Oxford University Press, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., and Emerald Publishing. Professor Baker has more than 250 publications in such outlets as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Portfolio Management, and Harvard Business Review. Several sources rank him among the top 1 percent of the most prolific authors in the finance during the past 50 years.

Professor Baker has presented more than 180 papers at professional meetings. He currently serves on seven editorial boards including the Journal of Emerging Markets and Journal of Financial Economic Policy. He has appeared in 15 biographies including Who’s Who in Finance and Industry and Outstanding Educators of America. Professor Baker has received many teaching, research, and service awards including University Scholar/Teacher of the Year at American University. He is also a professional musician who plays five instruments and has toured and recorded.

He received a BSBA (Management) from Georgetown University; an MBA (Finance), MEd (Educational Administration), and DBA (Finance) from the University of Maryland; an MS (Quantitative Methods), MA (Training and Career Development), PhD (Educational Administration and Organizational Development), and PhD (Counseling and Student Development) from American University. He also holds CFA and CMA designations.
